Centurion

Centurion is an Network Termination Unit (NTU) product that would allow Carrier Ethernet Service Providers (CESP) to provide a consistent and transparent service to its customers at all end points, regardless of the capabilities of any Third Party Service Provider (TPSP) that may be required to reach to customer sites.

TPSPs commonly impose restrictions that affect the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) size, customer VLAN IDs and Class Of Service (CoS) markings, Layer 2 Control Protocols (L2CPs), Ethernet Service Operating, Administration and Management (S-OAM) and in-service performance monitoring.

Centurion effectively tunnels all Ethernet traffic from the user, across the third party service to the edge of the CESP network, where it can then be processed without any of the limitations that would normally be imposed by a third party service provider.

Key benefits of Centurion:

  • restores a consistent and transparent CE service.
  • total visibility of users' traffic for monitoring, reporting, accounting and QoS.
  • business enabler — provides a solution to customers that were once 'out of reach'.
